Erie City Council Accepting Applications for Blighted Property Review Committee
Erie City Council is seeking applications to fill an open position on the Blighted Property Review Committee. Appointed Committee members serve in a voluntary capacity for a two-year term. Meetings are once per month on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. in Room 500 at City Hall.
The City of Erie’s Blighted Property Review Committee (BPRC) is the first body to consider whether a property meets criteria to be deemed blighted. It is the goal of the City of Erie, the BPRC, and the Redevelopment Authority is for responsible property owners to remediate the blighted conditions. If conditions are not promptly corrected or if public safety conditions warrant, the Redevelopment Authority can use eminent domain powers to acquire the property, make the necessary improvements (which may include demolition of any structures), and identify a new appropriate use or owner for the property.
