The Return of Lights Over Lake Erie and CelebrateErie

The City of Erie today announced its plans to bring back two of its premier summer events in 2022: CelebrateErie, presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and AHN Saint Vincent Hospital, and Lights Over Lake Erie, presented by Mercyhurst University.

Lights Over Lake Erie will return to Erie’s Bayfront on Sunday, July 3, featuring a fireworks

display launched from Erie’s Bicentennial Tower and Dobbins Landing, beginning at 10 p.m.

CelebrateErie will be hosted Friday, Aug. 19 through Sunday, Aug. 21, and will feature nationally-recognized headliners, the Chalkwalk, and local vendors across its five districts: art, culture, food, family and business. The event will feature several new elements in 2022, each aimed at providing more interactive programming for guests attending the event.

New elements for 2022 include:

● “Jam Sesh,” a walk-up music space for musicians of all backgrounds to use

● Youth basketball tournament with Erie’s Police Athletic League

● Walk-up 3-point basketball contest

● Walk-up cornhole tournament

● Participatory drum circles

“CelebrateErie is our region’s celebration of all things Erie, and after two years away, we couldn’t be more excited to be able to bring it back,” said Aaron Loncki, CelebrateErie Executive Producer. “Visitors expect to see a diverse showcase of all things Erie at the event, but this year we want our guests to come to CelebrateErie and have a more interactive experience. By introducing a few new elements like the cornhole and 3-point tournaments and our new Jam Sesh space, guests will have even more reasons to spend the weekend in downtown Erie.”

Headline music acts will be announced at a later date. Performer and vendor applications are being accepted now through April 29 at CelebrateErie.com
