Viewing and funeral for Erie Firefighter Michael Smith set for Saturday

A public visitation and funeral will be held Saturday for Erie Firefighter Michael Smith, 47, who died of cancer on Sunday. Smith’s brother David Smith is an Erie Police Officer.

A small funeral procession with family only will begin at 10 a.m. at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, 4216 Sterrettania Road in Millcreek Township. It will travel north on Sterrettania Road/Peninsula Drive, east on West Eighth Street, and then north on the Bayfront Parkway to the Bayfront Convention Center.

The visitation and funeral will be at the Bayfront Convention Center. Public visitation hours are from noon to 4 p.m. A public funeral will follow. Mayor Joe Schember and Chief of Staff Renee Lamis are expected to attend. Erie Police Chief Daniel Spizarny, Erie Fire Chief Joe Walko, and their command staffs will attend, along with department members. The interment will be private.
