City compost collection begins Sunday, March 12

Sunday night, March 12, begins compost collection season for the City of Erie. Compost materials will be accepted through Dec. 7.

On the City’s regular trash pickup schedule, refuse crews will collect compost materials in open hard containers (50 lb. limit) or in compostable brown paper lawn or leaf bags. Acceptable compost material includes:

  • Grass
  • Leaves
  • Garden clippings
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Small branches

Finished compost will be distributed free for City residents when material becomes available. Pickup locations are:

Westside – Thursdays:

  • Brabender Park: West 21st Street and Emerson Avenue
  • C. Francis Hagerty Park: West 32nd Street and Schaper Avenue

Eastside – Fridays:

  • Joseph Walczak Park: East Grandview Boulevard and Alan Drive
  • Rodger Young Park: East 18th Street and Downing Avenue
  • Wallace Street playground: Front and Wallace streets
