Temporary sidewalk, parking and travel lane restrictions in place on State Street
Beginning today, temporary sidewalk, parking, and travel lane restrictions are in place as construction gets underway for Phase 2 of the Downtown Streetscape Master Plan.
Expect temporary closures on the west side of State Street from 12th Street north. Construction crews will work in one- or two-block-long sections, and then reopen those areas as they move north toward South Park Row. Crews will then begin working on the east side of State Street from South Park Row south to 12th Street. Phase 2 closures will be dependent on construction schedules and will be intermittent until the conclusion of the project.
The Downtown Streetscape Master Plan includes multiple phases on State Street from Second to 12th Streets and features curbs, ADA ramps, sidewalks, decorative lighting, soil cells, trees, landscaping, and green space. Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 encompass South Park Row to 12th Street.
Phase 1, scheduled to be completed in 2024, includes:
- New curbs
- Decorative lighting
- Soil cells
Phase 2, scheduled to be completed in 2024, includes:
- New sidewalks
- Planter areas for new sidewalk trees
- Decorative stamped, colored concrete installed between planter areas
- Curb ramps that are Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant
New sidewalks will be installed along with new ADA ramps at the street intersections. Planter areas will be added with stamped colored concrete installed between the planter areas. For more information about the project, contact Rob Wernicki at 814-870-1378 or rwernicki@erie.pa.us.
