City kicks off the first Love Your Block project week of the summer
Volunteers are focused this week on the East Avenue neighborhood
The City of Erie’s Love Your Block team is in the midst of this summer’s first project week – which runs through July 22 – with 44 small home repair and cleanup projects in the East Avenue neighborhood. That area is bounded by the Bayfront Highway to the west, Lake Erie to the north, East 12th Street to the south and Gilson Avenue to the east.
Continuing today through Saturday, volunteers and Love Your Block team members will spread out to work with neighbors who have been selected to receive mini-grants for small projects including porch painting and repair, handrail installation, landscaping, large item removal, and mailbox and house number installation. Crews from the City’s Streets Department are also assisting with the projects.
- Start times: Thursday, 1 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.; Saturday; 9 a.m.
- Start location: Erie Center for Arts and Technology, 650 East Ave.
The Love Your Block initiative aligns with Mayor Joe Schember’s vision to provide welcoming, vibrant neighborhoods for Erie.
“We want to build opportunity, restore hope, and transform Erie,” said Mayor Schember, referring to his administration’s Mission Statement. “Programs like this are helping us do that in these neighborhoods, and with some of the people who need it the most. We are excited to be doing it.”
Here’s the lineup for the next Love Your Block projects, and the neighborhoods that they’ll be in:
- July 25 – 29, East Bayfront
- August 22 – 26, Lakeside
- August 29 – Sept. 2, Marvintown
